BTMS-50 is a cationic (positively charged) emulsifying wax that provides an effect of “conditioning agent”—it helps adsorb and create a very fine coating on skin and hair, giving an amazing finish that is unique to cationic ingredients. It contains 50% of the active ingredients, Behentrimonium Methosulfate.
BTMS can be used in a wide variety of applications including creams and lotions as it helps to soften the skin, leaving a soft non-greasy feel. Besides, it also applies in deep conditioning hair relaxers, hair care and conditioners, hair masks due to its excellent wet combing, and detangling properties and able to emulsify high levels of silicones, such as Dimethicone and Cyclomethicone, increasing the detangling properties and silky feel to products when used.
Typically the recommended use is 1-5% in conditioner type formulas or up to 10% for more viscous emulsions. Because there is cetearyl alcohol in the product it will build viscosity the more you use. The quat will also increase the conditioning in the formula.
